Title: If Being Honest Is The New Cool, I'd Rather Be A Social Reject
Author: [livejournal.com profile] xiexiegirl
Rating: PG-13
Pairing: Ryan/Brendon
POV: 3rd
Summary: Ryan Ross loves the dark. He loves it because he can't see those imperfections that keep him from the person he loves. What he doesn't know is that the person he loves already thinks he's perfect.
Disclaimer: This is real. Really! That’s why the sky is neon green and Pete Wentz is a girl.
Author Notes: I posted this a long time ago over at FanWorks. I thought to post it here because it’s one of my best fics, in my opinion.

Ryan Ross loves the dark.

He loves sitting in the dark because then, he doesn't have to look at himself; see himself the way he feels others see him.

Ryan Ross thinks he's imperfect.

But what he doesn't know is that someone disagrees. And that same someone is the person Ryan wants to be perfect for.

Ryan sat in the living room of the tour bus at exactly 2:53 in the morning with all the lights off, holding his notebook and glow-in-the-dark pen and writing in his journal. He was trying to come up with song lyrics again and all he could come up with were lyrics that were already written. Lyrics that everyone else in the world knew. Lyrics that Ryan never even wanted to hear in his life.

Ryan Ross had (and will refuse to admit it) “If We Were A Movie” stuck in his head.

Ryan wanted to kill Miley Cyrus at that moment.

So when everyone else was asleep, he contented himself with humming the song quietly in attempt to rid himself of the vile song.

Another thing Ryan will refuse to admit is who he thought about while humming that stupid song, though the answer is all over his journal in big, bright, glowing, capital letters.

Brendon Urie.

Ryan wants to forget about him, because then maybe he'll feel a little bit better about himself and maybe be a little less self-critical. The problem is that he can't forget about Brendon.

He lives with the guy.

He's in a band with the guy.

He's best friends with the guy.

That last part is what hurts him so much. Because he knows (or, at least, thinks he knows) that Brendon only thinks of him as a friend, nothing more. To Brendon (at least, in Ryan's eyes), Ryan's just another lame friend to drink Red Bull, wrestle, and watch Aladdin with.

Ryan thinks he's too imperfect to be anything more than mere friends with Brendon.

That's why Ryan loves the dark.

He can't see his own flaws and he can imagine that instead of his notebook on his lap, it's Brendon's head as they curl up to watch a movie. He knows it will never happen, so Ryan Ross is happy imagining right now.
